Giving Tuesday

"Next Tuesday, November 29 is #GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity and philanthropy, where individuals and organizations come together to contribute to causes that are meaningful to them and also in need of funding to support their missions.

I feel passionately about donating to causes that will advance the cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) because I have been fighting T1D since I was diagnosed over 30 years ago. T1D is a chronic condition where the pancreas makes little or no insulin. While more advanced technologies have emerged with insulin pumps and glucose monitors, diabetes still impacts my life and the daily lives of 1.4M Amercans and counting. T1D can also be life threatening when dealing with unexpected low glucose or ketoacidosis events. Each year T1D costs the US $18B in additional health care expenses.

When I first heard there were people who had been cured of T1D through islet transplants, I began researching and found that Chicago was the epicenter of this international research with the Chicago Diabetes Project. They have cured hundreds of people. Without FDA approval and continued research they can not scale this cure to 1M plus people with T1D.This year Foursided is donating 25% of all sales made in-stores or online on Giving Tuesday, November 29, 2022 to the Chicago Diabetes Project.
